Folk-rock band The Raven and the Fox are coming to Kimberley on October 13, as part of their western Canada album-release Tour.

Lead singer Julie Chang and guitarist Sean Isaac met through an impromptu jam session almost five years ago.

“I instantly fell in love with her voice and soon after with her,” said Isaac. “We began performing small cafe shows and open mics covering our favourite artists like Ray Lamontagne, Neil Young and Damien Rice. [We] then started writing songs together.”

The Alberta-based band will be touring with Kyle Pullan as their opening act.

“He [Pullan] is an incredible finger-style instrumental acoustic guitarist that wows audiences wherever he plays, he also happens to be our bass player,” said Isaac.

Isaac says he describes their music as love-inspired mountain music.

“We are very excited to play our live music at live venues across western Canada,” said Isaac. “Our album has a very full produced sound where as our live show for this tour will be stripped down to a more intimate sound with just vocals, guitar and bass. We have toured through B.C. a couple of times in the past few years so we are looking forward to reconnecting with fans in various cities and sharing our new album.”

In terms of future plans, Isaac says they hope to keep touring and playing their music for audiences across Canada as well as continuing to write new material.

“We will take a break over Christmas, then hopefully keep booking shows,” said Isaac. “We have played out east in New Brunswick and lots in the west, so we would really like to book some shows in Ontario, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. In February, we are lucky enough to attend the Folk Alliance International Conference Centre in Kansas City, Missouri. We will be representing the Alberta Room - one of 15 handpicked Alberta acts. We feel very honoured to be asked to be a part of this major folk music event.”

Their Kimberley stop will be at The Green Door on Friday, October 13. Doors are at 6:30p.m. with music at 7:30p.m.. Tickets are $12 at the door.
