Last year’s Business of the Year, sponsored by the Kimberley Bulletin, was Kimberley Centex.

This Friday, September 29 is your last opportunity to nominate a Kimberley business for the annual Kimberley Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards.

Go to kimberleychamber.com, nominate local businesses and let them know you appreciate them. There will also be a new award this year, recognizing business people who have been in business in Kimberley for a notable length of time.

The awards will be presented at a gala on Friday, October 20, 2017.

“We’re going to do something completely different this year for the awards night,” said Chamber Manager Mike Guarnery. “We’re going to hold the event at McKim Theatre, sort of a red carpet theme.”

Drinks and appetizers will be served in the atrium from 6:30 to 7:30 with the awards in the theatre at 7:30.

Guest speaker for the evening will be Steve Tersmette, speaking about his recent epic hike transversing the Purcells.

“He’s going to be talking about teamwork and perseverance, overcoming setbacks,” Guarnery said.

After the award are handed out, there will be an opportunity to mingle over drinks in the atrium again.

Tickets for the evening are only $30. Call the Chamber office at 250-427-3666 to book yours.

There are a number of other events coming up in what is always a very busy fall for the Chamber.

Business After Business mingles start up again on October 19. The first one of the season will be held at the Marysville Business Centre, 312 304 St. at 5 p.m. on the 19th.

On November 9, the Kimberley Chamber, in partnership with the City of Kimberley and the Cranbrook Chamber of Commerce, will present a business expo, Entrepreneur 360, at the St. Eugene Mission Pavilion.

“This is a one-stop resource for small business owners,” Guarnery said. “It provides access to all kinds of resources for small business. Anyone interested in starting or expanding a business, or planning business succession will find everything they need on employment, investments, access to capital, Basin business advisors. I had one business owner tell me last year that it would have taken her a year to find out all this information if she had been looking on her own.”

The event has been held at the Kimberley Conference Centre the past few years, but it was decided this year to broaden the scope at bit as most of the resources are regional.

Later in November, on the 18th, the annual Platzl Light Up event will be held. Watch the Bulletin for more information on that closer to the event.
