Census Canada has released more data from the 2016 census.

When Canada Census provided their first data from the 2016 Census this past winter, it showed that Kimberley’s population had grown to 7,425, an increase of almost 12 per cent since 2011.

This week, Canada Census released more detailed data on age and dwelling type.

Of those 7,425 people in Kimberley, the largest cohort is those over 65. 1,700 people over 65, or 22 per cent, call Kimberley home. That’s slightly higher than the provincial average of 18.3 per cent. The population of those up to 14 is 16 per cent, or 1,190 people. There are 330 teens aged 15 to 19, 270 people aged 20 to 24; 365 aged 25 to 29; 470 people aged 30 to 34; 490 aged 35 to 39; also 490 aged 40 to 44; 435 people aged 45 to 49; 500 people 50 to 54; 595 people aged 60 to 64. Of the 1,700 over 65, 225 are over 85. The data also says there are five people in Kimberley over 100.

The average age of the population is 44.8 years.

The data also provides housing information. While provincially, the number of people living in single detached homes is down to 44.1 per cent of the population, in Kimberley, the majority of the population continues to live in single homes. There are 3,330 dwellings in Kimberley and 2,585 people live in detached homes. There are 1,050 single person households; 1,345 two person households; 415 households with 3 persons, 375 with four and 140 with five or more people.
