Man charged in Grand Forks safety officer attack makes court appearance

A man accused of attacking a community safety officer in Grand Forks had his first day in court this week.

Andrew Robert Conn, 41, is charged with one count of uttering threats nd one count of mischief.

According to police, a man tried to attack a community safety officer with a knife at Gyro Park around 5L36 pm on Oct. 1. The window of a city services truck was smashed, causing an estimated $5,000 in damages, RCMP said at the time.

Conn was scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 4. He was adjourned to Oct. 17 on a custody order and will make his next appearance by video, according to records from provincial court in Rossland.

In a statement, Mayor Everatt Baker said that city council fully supports its staff and does everything it can to make sure it provides a safe workspace no matter what position they hold.
