No Canada Day fireworks in Kimberley

Fundraising comes up well short of goal

Canada Day in Kimberley will not have fireworks.

There will be no fireworks show in Kimberley on Canada Day. Kimberley Chamber Manager Mike Guarnery says he’s disappointed, but fundraising fell well short of the goal.

Guarnery was looking to raise close to $8,000 to put on a fireworks spectacular to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday.

“We’re not even close,” he said. “We’d need to see a rush to even get to $5,000 and I jut don’t see it happening.”

Guarnery says he will reach out to those who did donate and offer to return their donations or put them towards other Canada Day events.

“I’m disappointed,” he said. “It’s the sesquicentennial. I really hoped we could do it but we just didn’t get the uptake. But there are lots of other events happening in Kimberley on Canada Day.”

Canada Day is also First Saturday and many events have been planned. As well, Canada Day is the Royal LePage East Kootenay Realty Duck Race to benefit the Food Bank.
