Since the Royal Canadian Legion closed its Kimberley Branch, the community has been doing what it can to continue all the traditions of Remembrance Day. Greatly aided by the Kimberley Elks Club, ceremonies have continued as usual. This year, Military Ames will be leading the Remembrance Day ceremony at the new Veteran Memorial Park.
Each year many individuals and organizations lay wreaths during the ceremony. With the closure of the Kimberley Legion, the only option was to rent a wreath from the Cranbrook Legion. This year, Military Ames is adding another choice.
“Flowers Galore in Kimberley is offering beautiful wreaths for sale starting at $50.00,” said Cindy Postnikoff of Military Ames. “You can purchase your wreath and store it for next year. Part of the proceeds from the sale of the wreaths will go to Military Ames, Kimberley. A second choice is to contact the Cranbrook Legion and rent a wreath from them. You will be responsible to make arrangements with the Legion to pick up and return your wreath.”
People planning to lay a wreath on November 11 are asked to bring their wreaths to the Service and pick them up afterwards. If you are laying a wreath on behalf of a specific business or organization, or if you would like, please let Military Ames know and you will be put on the announcement list. If you have any questions please call Cindy 250 919-3137.
