The Boil Water Notice issued by the City of Kimberley for all users this past weekend has been rescinded as of 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 9, 2017. A Water Quality Advisory has been issued instead. Water quality is listed as fair, after being rated poor over the weekend.

Notices and advisories around water quality are mandated by Interior Health regulations and are a part of the spring freshet in Kimberley. Increased flow in rivers and streams caused by the runoff can lead to turbidity issues.

Turbidity is the cloudiness or haziness of a fluid caused by large numbers of individual particles that are generally invisible to the naked eye, similar to smoke in air. The measurement of turbidity is a key test of water quality.

The turbidity rating on Tuesday was 3.01 ntu. A rating between 1 and 5 ntu is considered fair. However, those ratings could change at any moment, especially if it begins to rain again. Please keep an eye on the city website (wwsw.kimberley.ca) where turbidity readings are posted daily.

As rivers and creeks are running swiftly at this time, it’s also a good time to remember to keep pets and children away from the water.
