Dick Lobban

1929 - 2017

Dick Lobban passed away at the Kimberley Special Care Home “The Pines” on Tuesday, August 22, 2017.

Born on March 25, 1929 in Trochu AB, Dick’s family moved to Cranbrook at a young age, moving to his final destination in Kimberley, BC. His father built “The Hub “only doors up the street from Avril Jenks whom he would later marry.

Dick was a Research and Development Technician at Cominco where he was asked to share his technique around the world, going to places like Spain, Tasmania and Greenland. Dick was also a union rep.

Dick married Avril when he was 21, having 6 children together. He was heavily involved with the community, joining the Elks club at 21 and becoming a lifetime member. Dick was also involved with the Lions Club in the early years. The North Star Ski Club was another organization Dick got involved in, joining the ski patrol, and board of directors. Dick was also on the board of directors for the Dynamiter

Hockey club for many years.

Dick was an avid gardener, learning from his parents who had an amazing garden out at Wasa where the family spent many years water skiing and swimming.

For many years Dick was the announcer for Julyfest Bocce tournaments from the beginning to the end of the weekend, making sure everyone knew when their team was up! He powered through even though he had two back surgeries. He was a great bowler and was on a team with Avril and friends for many years.

Many people will remember Dick walking every morning (waving to everyone) until he couldn’t walk any longer so he purchased an electric bike where he would pedal as much as he could only turning on the motor for the hills. He continued skiing for many years until his body just wouldn’t allow it anymore….

Dick was predeceased by his loving wife Avril (nee Jenks) Lobban, son Rodger Lobban, niece Karen (nee Jacobson) Blais, sister Norma (nee Lobban) Jacobson and parents, Elena (nee Radley) Lobban and Jim Lobban.

Dad was always so grateful for the kind and loving care he received at “The Pines” in Kimberley. We were all so fortunate to have such a wonderful group of people surrounding Dad in those last years of his life. He loved to joke with the staff and kept his humor until the end!

Dad will be sadly missed and forever in our hearts…

he is survived by his children Bill (Pat) Lobban and Terry (Steve) Swann of Kimberley, Patti (Norm) Jordan of Cranbrook, Marilyn (Shane) Amy of Kimberley, Richard (Dina) Lobban of Cranbrook, grandchildren Sandi (Scott) Carson, Jill Bentley-Lobban, Mackie Bentley-Lobban, Aaron (Ashley)
