Following their 7-0 loss in the first game of the Mowat Cup, the Kimberley Dynamiters shutout the Saanich Predators 4-0 in game four.

Although first period went without a goal from either team, the Dynamiters looked far sharper than their first appearance in the tournament, with some of the rust from the break shook off and the desire to win far more evident.

It looked like the second period would also remain scoreless, until Australian Riley Langille skated the puck into the Predators’ end, looped around the goal and snuck in the Dynamiters first goal of the game and of the tournament.

“I just saw some open ice and got my boots moving, went with it and chucked it at the net and it went in,” Langille said after the game. He said head coach Derek Stuart, following the slow first period, was happy with the team’s efforts and simply told them to “trust the process.”

“The boys believed in each other and kept on going and did the simple things and it worked out for us,” Langille said. “I think just playing for each other, playing for our fans and I think we just took a turn and the boys just want to win this, we want the championship.”

Langille went on to nab another goal early in the third, firing one in from deep. The Nitros kept their foot on the gas and Billy Kiray tacked a third goal a few minutes later.

A fourth from Tyden Redlick, coupled with solid defence and strong goaltending from Ryder Ponto secured the Dynamiters an important win.

They will now face the reigning tournament champions the Revelstoke Grizzlies, who’ve won both their games so far, at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Apr. 19

“They beat us last year in the Cyclone, we’re going to do the same this year,” Langille said.

Saturday’s Mowat Cup action begins at 1 p.m. with the Saanich Predators taking on the Ridge Meadow Flames.
