With only three practices under their belt, the Selkirk Sr. Boys soccer team is having an impressive start to the season.

The team competed in Nakusp this past weekend with a victory in all four games.

Coach Andrew Gibbons says the team dominated in the first three games and he was “quite impressed” with how the boys played.

In the first game, Selkirk won 6-0, then 7-3 in the second game and 5-2 in the third.

“In our last game against Invermere, the boys were loosing 3-2 in the first half, but turned it around in the second half to make the final score 5-3,” said Gibbons. “We’ve got quite a bit of talent on this team.”

One of his players, Moritz Lusch, is an international student from Germany. Lusch scored 13 goals in four games over the weekend. Lusch also recieved the Selkirk MVP Award this year.

“He’s a phenominal player,” said Gibbons. “He’s on his way to a possible scholarship with the University of Notre Dame which is pretty exciting.”

Although it is a Senior team, grades eight through 12 are welcome to participate.

“We simply don’t have enough [players] for two teams,” explained Gibbons. “They don’t start, but we encourage the junior boys to be a part of the team and get some experience.”

Up next is a tournament in Creston on Friday, Sept. 29 and Saturday, Sept.30.
