Canadian downhill mountain bike champion and Kimberley local Cassandra Boon has returned to her home town and opened a chiropractic clinic.
Dr. Boon grew up in Kimberley and won national titles and competed on an international level as a downhill mountain biker. Following her successful competitive career, Dr. Boon completed her Doctor of Chiropractic studies and began practicing at a Vancouver multi-disciplinary clinic, and with athletes and teams.
Recently, Dr. Boon has returned to Kimberley and established Fine + Well, a health and chiropractic clinic. While practicing in Kimberley, she also continues to treat and consult for the Canadian National Half-Pipe ski team as they compete on the international circuit leading up to the Sochi 2014 Olympics.
Dr. Boon works with the half-pipe team's head coach, fellow Kimberley resident and former Olympian Trennon Paynter.
Dr. Boon's career and personal life have involved extensive focus on movement, health and sport. Dr. Boon's background includes kinesiology, personal training and sport conditioning for professional athletes. She has worked with national level athletes and teams in skiing, cycling, running, triathlon, basketball, soccer, hockey and outdoor pursuits. Dr. Boon has worked in many practices in both rural and urban settings, and with a variety of skilled professionals.
Though Dr. Boon will be briefly travelling with the Canadian half-pipe team as they train in New Zealand, she looks forward to continuing to practice at home: "As an athlete, I've travelled extensively, but this is one of the best places on earth, right here in the Kootenays. I'm privileged to have grown up here, but am equally privileged to return to live and work here and continue to call the Kootenays home."
Despite considerable experience treating professional athletes, Dr. Boon enjoys working with patients from all walks of life: "Everyone moves and everyone can move better. It's great to help people manage conditions and feel better on a daily basis."
