Community Day at Kimberley Alpine Resort

East Kootenay skiers and snowboarders flocked to the hills of Kimberley Alpine Resort for a free day of riding on Sunday, Jan. 28 for the resort’s annual Community Day.

Anyone with photo identification and proof of residence in Canal Flats, Skookumchuk, Meadowbrook, Ta Ta Creek, Kimberley, Marysville, Wasa, Wycliffe, Moyie, Wardner, Creston, and Cranbrook got a free lift ticket.

The annual event was originally planned for January 14, but the resort decided to push it back two weeks to avoid the extreme cold weather. Guests on Sunday got quite the opposite weather in fact, with temperatures well above freezing and a fair bit of rain.

That didn’t hinder the fun by all accounts, as the parking lot was packed and the slopes were busy with riders enjoying some mid-winter spring conditions.

Guests also were treated to $4 hamburgers, with all proceeds going directly to East Kootenay Adaptive Snowsports.

Lessons from the Telus Winter Sports School were also available for 50 per cent off and rentals were discounted by 20 per cent.
