The Kimberley Library will be holding a free drop-in with Author Wilma G. Rubens on Friday, Apr. 12 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., with Rubens giving a talk and slideshow presentation.

Rubens was born in Scotland and had what she refers to as a “fundamentalist Scottish upbringing,” that has turned her into a “wild chameleon doomed for hell.”

She was educated at Edinburgh university and has decades of experience working as a facilitator, coach and author., specializing in conflict resolution, parent education, stress management and more. Her passion for world travel has taken her to India, Oman, New Zealand and Australia. She eventually settled in the pristine mountain setting of Canmore, Alta.

Her most recent book Circling the Edge explores her childhood in a Scottish Presbyterian family in the 1950s, through her leaving of Scotland and the lessons she garnered from travelling the world.

In this memoir, readers will find stories of self-discovery and traversing past one’s own self limitations. Rubens said that it was “birthed in challenging times and forged to reflect women’s resilience.”

“What an amazing story and honest soul searching read,” said author Dr. Nellie Radomsky in a review. “The early travels were incredible but the struggle for an authentic self is what ultimately inspired and captivated.”

Rubens has also been published in numerous magazines and has published a book of poetry entitled Entangled Enchantments.
