The Kimberley Public Library will host author, musician and former provincial court judge Philip Seagram on May 2. Submitted.

The Kimberley Public Library will welcome a unique guest on Friday, May 2, as former provincial court judge turned musician and author Philip Seagram brings his deeply personal journey to life through music and storytelling.

Seagram’s newly released book, No Judgment and Other Busking Stories, tells the story of a dramatic life shift. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and its far-reaching toll, Seagram stepped away from the bench in 2022 and embarked on an eight-week busking journey across Canada. The decision came after what he describes as a period of reckoning, brought on by burnout, disconnection, and missed milestones—like his son’s university graduation.

With a guitar, a small sign inviting people to give or take money, and a commitment to donate what he collected to humanitarian relief in Ukraine, Seagram hit the streets from coast to coast. Along the way, he collected more than coins—he gathered stories, moments of kindness, and reflections on human connection in uncertain times.

Those stories form the backbone of No Judgment and Other Busking Stories, published by Caitlin Press. The book explores themes of healing, resilience, and generosity, shaped by the raw honesty of street performance and human interaction.

Seagram will perform original songs from his journey at the Kimberley Library event, weaving music with storytelling during the one-hour program. A Q&A session will follow, and copies of the book will be available for purchase (cash only, $24).

Jean Miller, Outreach Coordinator at the library, says the event offers something special.

“We’re absolutely delighted to welcome Philip Seagram to Kimberley,” she said. “His story is one of courage, creativity, and honest human connection. We can’t wait to share this inspiring experience with our community.”

The event runs from 3 to 4 p.m. on May 2. Space is limited and pre-registration is required.
