The Key City Gallery is ready to launch its 2012/13 season, and it’s all starting off with a celebration of two communities.
The Gallery is holding its first opening reception Sept. 22 to celebrate the Rails to Trails exhibition. The show is now hanging in the gallery and features local artists that have been inspired by the popular new trail system that stretches from Kimberley to Cranbrook.
It was previously shown in Kimberley. Jenn Smith, marketing co-ordinator for the Key City Theatre, said the exhibition is all about the connection between Kimberley and Cranbrook that was established when the trail was completed.
The artists to be featured are Karl Walker, Sam Millard, Jim Poch, Neal Panton, Jim Robertson, Alicia Herman and Art Kharman.
While several of the artists have displayed their work at the Key City Gallery before, Herman and Walker will be new. The show will be a variety of different mediums with something for every art fan.
“Everybody does something different,” Smith said. “It really is all over the place.”
All of the pieces to be displayed are for sale and the exhibit will hang in the gallery until October 15.
The reception on Saturday will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. featuring refreshments and meet and greet opportunities with all the artists.
“We encourage everyone to come by,” Smith said.
Following the Rails to Trails show the gallery will jump into an open invitation exhibit. The call is out now for local artists interested in displaying their pieces. Smith said the show is aimed towards people who may not have ever shown before, although experienced artists are welcome too.
“We make sure everyone gets equal representation,” Smith said.
There is no cost to enter and the show will hang October 15 to November 14. A reception will be held on October 22 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. featuring the artists.
After that, the exhibit will shift to the annual Affordable Art sale from November 14 to December 20. Smith said it’s a great time to collect a few early Christmas gifts as all pieces must be priced under $300.
“A lot of people use this as a great way to start Christmas shopping, because who wouldn’t want an original piece for Christmas?” Smith said.
A reception for the Affordable Art show will be held November 17 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
