“We just wanted to get away from acoustic folk music for a bit and see what it was like to do something totally different,” said Good Ol’ Goats drummer Julian Bueckert, of the inspiration for forming the Goats’ side-project Bonecrusher and Friends.
“This music allows us to go a little more crazy, and just do weird things that we just couldn’t do with the Goats.”
Bonecrusher and Friends (which features vocalist-guitarist Nolan Ackert and bassist-vocalist Theo Moore, both also of the Good Ol’ Goats) has popped out of the bustling Cranbrook music community as an engaging and compelling power-trio, continuing our proud local tradition of garage-rock — keeping the kids away from vandalism, shoplifting, and self-mutilation and firing their frustrated angst into the positive outburst of (dare we say) good ol’ Rock and Roll.
And these talented young riff-mongers have their live debut this Wednesday, June 18, at the legendary Byng Roadhouse, as opening support for San Francisco’s psychedelic rock duo Callow.
“Right now, this is just for fun,” Bueckert assures any worrying GOGs fans. “We’re seeing if people actually enjoy what we’re making. But it would be cool to see Bonecrusher and Friends take off on its own.”
As with the Good Ol’ Goats, guitarist-vocalist Nolan Ackert takes a primary songwriting role, although (in democratic GOGs style) Moore and Bueckert craft their rhythm-section parts on their own in equal collaborative manner.
“Lately, it’s been fairly easy for the three of us to divide our time between the Goats and this new project,” said Bueckert. “The Goats haven’t had many gigs, since we’re getting ready for our big summer tour. “Once our main focus with Goats simmers down at the end of the summer, we’ll be keeping busy through the fall with Bonecrusher. We’ve got an album of our own to complete. We’ll be seeking out local gigs around the Cranbrook/Kimberley area, and if we can do a small tour, so much the better!”
Bonecrusher & Friends make their ear-splitting live debut this Wednesday, June 18, at the Byng Roadhouse in Cranbrook as opening support for San Francisco’s on-tour psych-rock duo Callow. Showtime 9 pm.
