Chicago the Musical
Key City Theatre
Set in Chicago during the roaring “jazz hot” 20s, the musical tells the story of two rival vaudeville murderesses who’ve been locked up in Cook County jail. Velma Kelly, nightclub star, is serving time for killing her husband and sister after finding the two in bed together. Chorus girl and adulteress Roxie Hart has been thrown in the joint for bumping off her lover. Velma enlists the help of prison matron Mama Morton and charming lawyer Billy Flynn, to razzle-dazzle her incarceration into a murder of the week media frenzy. But Roxie‘s got some of her own tricks up her sleeve and through charm, manipulations and dirty rotten lies, manages to turn a feeding frenzy into a full on war. Chicago is a story of murder, greed, corruption, violence, exploitation, adultery, and treachery – all the things we hold near and dear to our hearts. It is hunger for fame, media spectacles, fake news and trial by publicity. Set nearly a full century ago, the plot is timeless, the music sensational, the Bob Fosse inspired choreography phenomenal, and when it all comes together, it promises to be a tour de force Cranbrook will not soon forget.

Alex Zerbe - The Zaniac
With the energy of 1,000 suns, The Zaniac shines like a comedy beacon as he bounces from one end of the stage to the other like an untamed rubber band. Jaws will drop, and drool will fly as Alex juggles bowling balls, flaming torches and slices vegetables in half with a flying playing card. Even movie stars like Jamie Lee Curtis freak out in a good way when they see The Zaniac perform. Alex wishes his mom was there when she said, “Boy are you Fantastic and Talented!”
