BC United candidate for Columbia River Revelstoke, Scott McInnis, says it has been quite a whirlwind since the announcement that BC United’s leader Kevin Falcon was dropping their campaign, while encouraging supporters to unite behind the Conservative Party of B.C.
“It’s hard to describe,” McInnis told the Bulletin. “Something along the lines of — I used to attend weekend music festivals when I was younger. It kind of feels like the Monday after the festival.”
He says he took a 24 hour cooling off period after the announcement last Wednesday, but his phone didn’t stop ringing, and he received so many emails and messages, filled with encouragement.
“We are pressing full on ahead,” he said. “I haven’t heard from the Conservative Party. If they call, I will entertain an offer. Obviously they have a candidate at this time. I’m going full on ahead. I think I still have a chance to win this riding.
“I still have support, my campaign team is still with me. I’ve been getting support from Revelstoke all the way down to Jim Smith Lake.
“It’s not the end of the road. I will wait for a Conservative call. I know they are busy.”
McInnis says he believes he can mesh his political views with those of the Conservative Party of BC.
“This is a blending of two groups. You’re going to see a softening message. It’s the same ideology we’ve have always had. Both parties are in opposition to the NDP.”
