Interior Health has identified the McDonalds restaurant in Sparwood, as a site of exposure to measles.
In a Facebook post on June 17, Interior Health noted a visitor to B.C who went to the McDonalds in Sparwood on June 8, has a case of measles.
There are currently no cases of measles originating with the Interior Health region, as the McDonalds visitor came from outside the area. In May, Interior Health noted that there were confirmed cases in the South Zone of Alberta, neighbouring the East Kootenay region.
Interior Health is urging individuals who were at McDonalds on that day, from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., and may have been exposed, to reach out and follow up in order to complete contact tracing.
Those at risk include people who have not gotten the measles vaccine or are unsure of their vaccination status, immunocompromised people, children under one year of age, and pregnant women. Call 1-855-549-6364 to speak with the communicable disease team, who will review vaccine history, determine measles immunity and provide recommendations.
