General voting day for the 2024 City of Kimberley by-election is Saturday, September 21, 2024. This by-election will elect one councillor for a two year term to fill former Coun. Steve Royer’s seat.
Nomination papers are available August 6 and can be picked up at City Hall from 8:30 to 4:45 week days. You can also ask for them to be emailed to you at election@kimberley.ca
The nomination period opens August 6th and closes on August 16th, 2024 at 4:00 pm. During this period, nomination documents will be received by the Chief Election Officer or their designate. Candidates are asked to make an appointment for submission of nomination documents. Contact Vicki Lucas, Deputy Chief Election Officer at 250-427-9658 to book your appointment.
In order to qualify to run for a council seat you must :
- Be a Canadian Citizen
- Be 18 years of age or older on election day
- Be a resident of British Columbia for at least six months immediately before the day nomination papers are filed and
- Have not been disqualified by the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election in BC or from being nominated for, being elected to, or holding office, or been otherwise disqualified by law
You do not have to live in the jurisdiction in which you are running for office
