A suspect has been identified in connection to a string of thefts from car dealerships, including Cranbrook Toyota on Jan. 28.

According to Cranbrook RCMP, a pick-up truck plowed through high-security fencing at the Toyota dealership on the morning of Jan. 28, and subsequently stole more than 20 vehicle batteries from the business.

With help from the public on social media, Kimberley RCMP were able to bring a suspect into custody. The suspect was driving a similar looking vehicle to the one seen on Toyota video surveillance and had a large number of car batteries in their possession. The amount of batteries found, indicated they had stolen from other businesses as well.

The suspect was taken into custody and released, and will appear in court March 31, 2025.

Cranbrook RCMP is urging local businesses to check their inventory, to see if they have any missing items.

Persons with information about related incidents who have yet to speak with police should call the Cranbrook RCMP at (250) 489-3471.
