On May 21 the City of Kimberley welcomed residents to Public Works Day, held annually for over 60 years, in conjunction with the celebration of National Public Works Week.
This free event event, which acknowledges all those who work in professions that help provide and maintain public facilities and services, is held each year in Kimberley at the Public Work Yard at 250 Knighton Road.
City workers showcase their numerous responsibilities and the equipment they utilize, teaching attendees how the City's assets are maintained.
Groups of students from local schools and families are treated to interactive displays and presentations on a variety of City equipment and facilities, including the Parks Department's Zamboni, tractor and field sweeper, the bylaw station, the Utilities Department, the Wastewater Treatment Plant and the sewer system Vactor Hydro-Excavator truck.
Kids also get the opportunity to go for rides in the Motor Grader, which is always a big hit.
This year the City also offered two walking tours of the Mark Creek Dam, giving residents a chance to learn more about where their water comes from.
The City also provides a barbecue lunch for everyone who attends.
