City of Kimberley launches housing-focused survey to review and update OCP and two bylaws.

The City of Kimberley has begun a housing-focused review and an update of its Official Community Plan (OCP) and two zoning bylaws. They have started a new survey, available at engagekimberley.ca, to help garner public input.

The OCP was adopted in 2018 to outline the community's long-term vision fro growth and development and serves to guide policy decisions.

Zoning bylaws regulate land use within a municipality, specifying how parcels of land can be used and what can be built on them.

Kimberley has two distinct bylaws: one for Kimberley Alpine Resort, and another for everything else.

According to the City, this review and will focus on:
• Integrating the Housing Needs Report received by Council in late Fall 2024.
• Developing policies for housing in commercial nodes and mixed-use developments,
• Establishing policies for home-based businesses and small-scale commercial uses in
residential areas,
• Reviewing Development Permit Area Guidelines

"It is important to note that non-housing related issues will be addressed in future reviews, the timing of which will be determined after this housing-focused review," a City spokesperson said.

Visit engagekimberley.ca for more information and to complete the survey. The City said the public can expect upcoming opportunities for public engagement, including focus groups and an open house, in the near future.
