Fantastic fundraiser, concert held at Elks Social House

Rogue Tassel and Fyfe Williams get the dance floor moving at the Elks Social Hall.

The Elks Social House held a concert with two talented local bands on Saturday, May 10, to raise funds for upgrades to the building.

All told, the event raised $1150 for the Elks Lodge, all from voluntary donations at the door.

"We were very busy, lots of new faces, a great energy and the dancefloor saw a lot of action," said Lounge manager Paige Ashton. "With the success of this event and all the fun our patrons were having, we can’t wait to host lots of bands in the future here. We want everyone to know we have one of the best music venues in town, and the best dancefloor!"

First up, after the Meat Draw, was Rogue Tassel, which features two members of local favourites Alderbash. The duo played on numerous different instruments throughout their set which spanned over two hours and featured numerous originals, including several ballads about Monoskiing, as well as many familiar folk and bluegrass tunes.

The always energetic Fyfe Williams were up next. They're relatively new on the scene in Kimberley, but have been rapidly making waves with frequent memorable performances. Playing everything from their own originals to Celtic folk renditions of punk classics, Fyfe Williams has something for everyone and definitely had the crowd hooked right from the get go.

All money raised on Saturday will now go towards renovations of the building. Ashton, who started managing at the Elks just over a month ago, said they've recently installed new flooring behind the bar and they're looking to do some painting and work to the ceilings.

The historic Elks Lodge #90, which turned 100 last year, is an invaluable community institution. They support community members when they need help, they support Selkirk Secondary School graduates through annual scholarships and they make yearly donations to other important local organizations like the Kimberley Food Bank, Kimberley Food Recovery, Kimberley Loan Cupboard, School lunch programs and many, many more.

Ashton thanked all the volunteers and the bands who made Saturday night such a resounding success.
