Firefighters respond to wildfire north of Skookumchuck

The BC Wildfire Service is responding to a 7.5-hectare wildfire north of Skookumchuck that was discovered on Sunday, June 1.

As of Monday, June 2, respond included 15 firefighters, while air tankers supported initial attack crews by slowing the fire's spread.

Ground crews are continuing suppression efforts with direct attack strategies, according to an update from the BC Wildfire Service.

The fire is believed to be caused by lightning.

So far this year, there have been 26 wildfires in the Southeast Fire Centre, according to BC Wildfire Service statistics.
