After a multi-year process, Military Ames has announced the date of the unveiling ceremony for their Service Dog Memorial.
The public is invited to join Military Ames at Spokane Street, the entrance to the Platzl, to unveil this monument to service dogs at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 7.
"It’s been a meaningful journey and the moment has finally arrived," said Cindy Postnikoff of Military Ames. "Service dogs play a vital role in the lives of many, especially within the military and first responder communities.
"These remarkable animals provide a broad range of support — both practical and emotional — helping their handlers navigate daily challenges with resilience and strength. At Military Ames, we deeply value and recognize their contributions."
The ceremony will feature special guests and speakers including: MLA Scott McInnis, Veteran and Military Liaison Rosalyn Bird, Military Veteran D. Urban, Military & RCMP Veteran Sue Harvey and Service K9 Willow.
Postnikoff added that, akin to the Kimberley Veteran Memorial Park, this new local monument is a part of Military Ames' ongoing mission to: "honour and support those who have sacrificed for our freedoms."
"We are committed to creating spaces that educate, inspire, and commemorate — not only those who made the ultimate sacrifice but also those who continue to serve and carry their experiences with them every day," she said.
"We are proud of the impact the Memorial Park has had, drawing praise from visitors around the world. With this new monument, we hope to continue that legacy and present a tribute worthy of its purpose."
Postnikoff extended sincere gratitude to the City of Kimberley, the Kimberley Community Foundation, Scott Wills Tree Service, King Rock Products, and all the community members who have supported us throughout this project.
Following the ceremony, Military Ames will be holding an Act of Remembrance at the cenotaph to honour a veteran who recently took his own life.
