Military Ames hosted a Remembrance Day ceremony on Monday, Nov. 11, honouring all those past and present who have served and made the ultimate sacrifice.
A crowd of hundreds gathered at the the Kimberley Cenotaph and Kimberley Veteran Memorial Park to honour the occasion.
The Kimberley Pipe Band led the parade into the park, leading members of the Military, RCMP, Fire Department, Search and Rescue and more.
The ceremony was led by veteran and Military Ames member Kyle Dalum. Dave Sparrow led the crowd in the singing of O Canada and God Save the King. Trumpet player Randy Marchi played The Last Post, leading the crowd into two minutes of silence.
E3 Navy Corpsman Paul Brandon was the chaplain for the ceremony.
A very special moment at this year's ceremony was Pvt. Alan Clause, who came from Invermere for the ceremony, where he gave an emotional reading of a poem he wrote and published. Clause joined the Canadian Forces at age 17, with his parents' permission. He spent 30 months with the 4th Canadian Infantry Brigade in Soest, Germany at the age of 18 and became a gunner with an anti-tank platoon.
He then joined the United States Marines and served in Vietnam, receiving a Purple Heart, just one of his many other medals, which include a NATO bar, Duke of Edinburgh Brooch, Queen Elizabeth 11 Golden Jubilee medal and a Nijmegen marching medal.
The Kimberley Elks then hosted lunch for any at the ceremony who wished to attend.
