Registration is open now for the always highly anticipated Canadian Bocce Championships at Kimberley's annual JulyFest is open now.
When the newly-created Events from Myrtle Mountain took the helm of JulyFest last year, following the Chamber of Commerce's announcement that they were stepping back from running it, they assured residents of Kimberley their aim was to keep the festival and its traditions alive.
One of the most beloved traditions of the annual summer festival is the massive bocce tournament, which draws well over 100 teams that compete with hilarious team names and costumes to match.
Jeremey Christensen and his father Ron, two of the founders of Events from Myrtle Mountain, know all about the history of the festival and the bocce tournament.
In a previous interview, Jeremy told The Bulletin, about his dad's team 4 Angry Inches, who prior to retirement were one of the longest running teams in tournament history. He has since gone on to join Dicken Cider, who have been competing for nearly 30 years.
As a teenager Jeremy used to don the Happy Hans mascot costume, helped create the iconic Happy Hans bocce trophies and has slung beers at the festival and reffed at the tournament.

This year's event will have three divisions: Mens, Ladies and Mixed, with all games to be played in the McKim field. Jeremy said they currently have about 25 teams signed up and they will be able to accomodate at least 175 teams this year.
The cost to register a team is $150 and all teams are also asked to volunteer as a referee for at least one game.
