Temporary road closure and water service interruptions are coming starting June 9 due to "significant upcoming construction activity" on the ongoing St. Mary's Avenue/Spokane Street infrastructure improvement project, according to a City of Kimberley press release issued Friday, June 6.
"Beginning next week, critical underground utility upgrades will require a full road closure as well as temporary water service interruptions in some areas," a City spokesperson said. "Sharing information about these scheduled activities will help affected residents prepare in advance of the closures and interruptions."
Wallinger Avenue at Spokane Street will be fully closed to all traffic from Monday, June 9 through Wednesday, June 11, 2025. The closure will be in effect 24 hours per day throughout this period.
During this closure traffic will be rerouted via Howard Street and around Kimberley Avenue. There will be signage and traffic control personnel on hand to assist with navigation. Wallinger Avenue on both sides of Spokane Street will still be accessible, including access to parking and businesses in the area.
The Platzl will remain accessible to pedestrians at the Spokane Street entrance.
The underground infrastructure upgrades necessitate temporary water interruptions in the vicinity of St. Mary's Avenue and Ross Street. The City has already notified affected businesses and residents.
Water shut offs will take place on the following dates:
•Tuesday, June 10, 2025 (see map for affected locations)
•Thursday, June 12, 2025 (see map for affected locations)
•Time: 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM (both days)
The City said some additional areas may experience intermittent outages and they encourage affected residents to prepare in advance by doing the following:
•Store water in advance for drinking, cooking, and hygiene (including pets).
•Avoid using water-based appliances such as dishwashers and washing machines during the outage.
•Turn off automatic water systems (e.g., irrigation timers, water softeners) to prevent damage or malfunction.
•After service resumes, run cold water taps for a few minutes to clear any air or discoloration.
"The City of Kimberley recognizes the inconvenience these disruptions may cause and sincerely appreciates the community’s patience and cooperation as we work to enhance the reliability and safety of our infrastructure."
