Summit Community Services Society (SCSS) has announced the launch of new services for low to modest-income seniors in the area.
These services will help to allow the seniors to continue to live independently and remain connected with their communities and include friendly visiting, light housekeeping, minor home repairs and light yard work.
Better at Home services (BAH) are available to all seniors who live within the Kimberley city limites catchment area. They are provided by both staff and volunteers, who are trained to deliver services to seniors and meet all necessary criteria for employment with SCSS and BAH.
SCSS is currently looking for new volunteers in order to help grow the BAH program.
"Volunteering not only benefits community seniors, but you as well," said SCSS spokesperson in a press release.
"When we volunteer, we give back to the community and can develop our personal growth and fulfillment. Volunteering has numerous benefits: it keeps our minds sharp, enhances our emotional well-being, and instills a sense of purpose, accomplishment, and satisfaction. It's an opportunity to learn new skills, build new connections, and strengthen our sense of community and belonging."
Even volunteering one hour a week can make a world of difference for Kimberley's seniors and help them remain in their homes and connected to the community.
Volunteers with a wide range of skill sets and interests are encouraged to volunteer. There several different programs to choose from including the friendly visiting volunteer program, light housekeeping services, minor home repair and yard work.
Volunteers will be matched with seniors based on availability and SCSS will work to accommodate your schedules.
