Kimberley Dynamiter captain Trey Stephenson was named Top Defenceman by the KIJHL for their 3 Stars of the Month for December. Originally from Grande Prairie, Alta.

Stephenson has bounced back from an early-season injury. He broke his pinky in a practice, necessitating surgery and missing around six weeks of play. Since he's been back on the ice, he's made his presence known.

At the annual Christmas Classic, Stephenson had assists on the game winning goals in both games of the double headers against the Fernie Ghostriders. So far, in his 14 games played this season, Stephenson has two goals and 17 points.

In December had a goal and nine assists while being plus seven and playing an average of 22:45 minutes per game.

He had three assists on Dec. 13 alone, as the Dynamiters beat the Castlegar Rebels 8-2.

After their win against the Quesnel River Rush on Jan. 3, in which Stephenson scored during the shootout helping the Dynamiters secure the win, Stephenson had this to say about where he feels the team is at heading into the final stretch of the season:

"I'd say it's just staying course," he said. "We're a pretty emotional group, which is a good thing, but at the end of the day, things are going to go against us sometimes and things are not gonna go our way, and we just have to keep a level ahead and stay stick with it. So I think our group can work on that for sure, especially heading into the playoffs."
