The Kimberley & District Community Foundation (KDCF) is preparing to open its 2024 community grant applications, offering local charitable organizations the chance to receive crucial funding for projects that enhance the Kimberley area. From October 14 to November 1, 2024, local organizations will be able to submit proposals for initiatives focused on arts, culture, environmental preservation, sports, health, and education.

“We’re excited to review this year’s applications and support a new round of organizations making Kimberley such a wonderful place to live,” says Wendy Jarvis,  KDCF President. “These grants play a key role in continuing the important work happening throughout our community.”

Since 2001, the KDCF has been a driving force behind the growth and well-being of the region, distributing over $677,000 to local projects. In recent years, the Foundation has contributed nearly $20,000 annually, with its funding helping create landmarks like Veterans Memorial Park and the Eimer’s Lake Boardwalk, improve community gardens, and provide support to local youth and adult mental health organizations.

Jarvis adds that the area served by the Foundation is defined by the boundary of the former School District 3. “We accept and provide support to the City of Kimberley, as well as the communities of St. Mary’s Lake, Wycliffe, Meadowbrook, Ta Ta Creek, Wasa and Skookumchuk.”

A Legacy of giving

The Foundation’s ability to give back is built on permanent endowment funds, which generate interest used for annual grants. These endowments, created through donations, bequests, and gifts from individuals and corporations, ensure that contributions continue to benefit the community for years to come. Donations of $10,000 or more can establish new endowments, but contributions of any size are welcomed to grow existing funds.

“We rely on donations to grow our endowments and continue supporting the community,” adds Jarvis. “A donation to the Foundation is truly a gift that keeps on giving.”

Friends of the Foundation

In addition to community grants, the Foundation’s “Friends of the Foundation” program offers a way for individuals to support operational costs with an annual donation of $100. This ensures that all endowment funds remain solely for grant distribution, while covering the expenses needed to keep the Foundation running smoothly. Friends receive tax-deductible receipts and are invited to Foundation events, including grant ceremonies and annual reports.

Grant applications open on Oct. 14 and close on Nov. 1.
