Bridge repair on track

Black Bear bridge should re-open by the end of September

Black Bear bridge should be re-opened by the end of the month, says Mayor Ron McRae.

The bridge has been closed since mid-July as it undergoes an $600,000 rehab.

“It is essentially a complete replacement,” said McRae.

McRae says right now crews are waiting for the concrete to cure.

“That takes six to seven days,” he said. “At the mid-point of this week, they should be able to start to backfill and then proceed to do the prep work for the final paving. We are also waiting for the steel beams for the railings to arrive.”

In addition to Black Bear bridge being out of commission this summer, the city permanently closed the Mark Street bridge near B&B glass in August.
