Bridging the gaps

Cranbrook is in the process of replacing four park bridges, three in Kinsmen Park and one in Idlewild Park.

At Idlewild, the main bridge at the east end of the lake has been removed. The new bridge will be installed within the next two weeks.

Three bridges in Kinsmen Park are being replaced, set to be completed by summer.

The first to go was a bridge by St. Mary's Catholic School, next to the playground. It was removed in mid-October and has already been replaced. The bridge is usable, but some more work on the asphalt surfacing and landscaping will be completed in spring.

The short bridge over Joseph Creek near Brookview Crescent – on the opposite side of Victoria Avenue – will be replaced in the spring. This section of Rotary Trail will be closed during the construction.

Finally, the main pedestrian bridge in Kinsmen Park will be replaced in spring. Because this section of Rotary Trail is so well-used, a temporary bridge will be built upstream of the existing bridge., The old bridge will then be dismantled and a new bridge built at the original location.

The project is funded by the Community Recreation Program grant through the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development.
