As reported last week in the Daily Bulletin, the 15-year old Kimberley girl Jenna Homeniuk, who is fighting leukemia, has been dischaged from hospital.
Jenna is currently staying at Ronald McDonald House in Calgary and being treted as an outpatient at Alberta Children’s Hospital.
But she will be coming home early this spring if all goes well.
As also reported in the Bulletin, the costs of medication could be as high as $4000 per month. Fundraisers, including one at the Sully Pub on March 9, are being planned.
But there can never be too many and the latest one, devised by Katey Kirkconnell has a lofty goal. Kirkconnell wants to raise $10,000 to help with medication costs and the cost of trips back to Calgary for medical appointments.
“There are 387 kilometres between Alberta Children’s Hospital and Jenna’s front door,” Kirkconnell said. “The goal is to raise $10,000 or approximately $25 per kilometre.”
Kirkconnell is asking anyone in Kimberley who can help to purchase a kilometre, or even part of a kilometre. Donations can be made at either Kootenay Savings Credit Union or Black Bear Fitness and Video in Kimberley. Cheques may be made out to “Jenna Homeniuk in Trust”.
