The Kimberley and District Chamber of Commerce has announced that they have filled the position of General Manager.

Mike Guarnery has been selected by the Chamber Board to assist as they move in a ‘focus on business’ direction.

Guarnery has lived in the Kimberley area since 1994. Over the past 13 years, he was worked primarily in employment-driven programs to assist individuals and businesses with employment assistance and strategies for current and future markets. This includes participating on local committees regarding skill shortages and resolving issues that employers are facing within the various industries of the East Kootenay region.

Guarnery has experience promoting and planning events such as job fairs, and fund raising events for local groups such as the Kimberley Dynamiters and Home Run Society’s baseball initiative.

He has also served as vice-chair on the Board of Community Futures East Kootenay.

Guarnery will spend his first few weeks in the position getting acquainted with local business owners, and getting caught up on Chamber priorities as identified at their AGM this year.

“Kimberley’s attractions are magnificent and certainly marketable to the world,” Guarnery said. “I have found the people to be the most genuine and forthright individuals I have ever met and welcome the opportunity to support local merchants to bolster its reputation as a city of great opportunity and commercial value."

There will be an opportunity to meet Mike Guarnery on April 4 at 5 p.m when the Chamber hosts a business mingle  at their new office at 253 Wallinger Ave.
