The Southeast Fire Centre has upgraded the Cherry Lake fire as a Wildfire of Note, as it has grown to over 1,000 hectares since discovery on Tuesday, Aug 25.
The blaze is 35 kilometres south of Cranbrook and is not threatening any structures or communities.
As of Friday afternoon, there are 43 firefighters, six helicopters, and seven pieces of heavy equipment working on the fire.
The fire, which is believed to be lightning caused, has grown quickly due to wind and dry forest conditions and is currently classified as zero per cent contained.
