How your property taxes are spent in Kimberley.

It’s been a long, arduous process, and it still may not be entirely settled as another conversation on whether or not to remove $80 from the flat tax is scheduled for the Council meeting of April 11, but the City of Kimberley has the draft financial plan for 2016 ready for public viewing.

The draft is available at kimberley.ca or you can pick up a copy at City Hall.

The Financial Plan will be presented at a Townhall Meeting on Monday, April 4, 2016 at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers.

Members of the public are welcome to attend or provide written submissions.

This year’s financial plan is calling for a 3.46 percent increase to residential property taxes, this includes 1.46 percent for the flume rehab project.

The general municipal property tax increase for the average single family residence valued at $245,964 ($231,556 in 2015) is estimated to be $73.09. This tax increase is comprised of $42.25 for the general tax increase and $30.84 for the Mark Creek Flume & Stream Rehabilitation Project. The total general municipal tax (mill rate tax, flat tax and Aquatic Centre parcel tax) for an average single family residence in 2016 is estimated to be $2,337.52 before the Home Owner Grant ($6.40 per day) for all municipal services excluding water, sewer and solid waste.

In 2016 the residential flat tax will be reduced to $706 for a residential property with improvements and remain at $310 for a residential property without improvements. The Aquatic Centre parcel tax will remain the same at $152 in 2016.

The total City of Kimberley budget for 2016 is $24,494.910.
