Cranbrook RCMP take 3 impaired drivers off the road

Citizens' reports help track impaired drivers on weekend

The Cranbrook RCMP took three impaired drivers off the road over the weekend as a result of reports made by other motorists.  RCMP would like to acknowledge the efforts of local citizens in identifying the three impaired drivers.

The first report was received at 8:36 am on Saturday, Dec. 20, by a concerned citizen who kept police informed of the erratic driver up until police were able to intercept it. That driver was issued a 90 day driving prohibition under the Motor Vehicle Act. This driver had plans to drive to Merritt — police were glad to safely remove him from the road before something more serious took place.

The second call was received shortly after noon,  east of Cranbrook and the complainant went above and beyond keeping the suspected impaired driver in view until police caught up with them on Wardner/Fort Steele Road. Criminal Charges of Impaired Driving are being proposed after the driver gave a breath sample 2.5 times the legal limit. He has a Court date scheduled for February.

At 9:30 pm on Sunday, Dec. 21, another report was received from a concerned citizen of an impaired driver which resulted in another proposal for Criminal Charges. In this case the driver blew 290 mg/100 ml, 3.5 times the legal limit.

Cranbrook RCMP would like to commend the citizens who took the time to report and help make our roadways just a little safer.
