On May 30th, 2017 13:59hrs (MT) Cranbrook and Kimberley RCMP were advised of a dangerous driving incident near Skookumchuk where the operator of a stolen black Ford pickup attempted to run over a civilian and was last seen Southbound on Highway 95.
A second report was received of a suspicious vehicle at Fort Steele and an attempt was made to intercept the male and female occupants. The suspect was able to evade apprehension after ramming one of the police vehicles and fleeing North on Highway 95.
Police from Cranbrook, Kimberley and Columbia Valley detachments with the assistance of the police dog service conducted extensive patrols of the area and located the vehicle on Sheep Creek Rd near Premier Lake. The suspect rammed a second police vehicle prior to being arrested. Two police officers were injured from the collisions with one treated at East Kootenay Regional Hospital and released late evening.
The suspect driver from Alberta and female passenger from Invermere were arrested for multiple offences including assault with a weapon, flight from police, dangerous driving and possession of property obtained by crime. Both are associated to a number of recent similar incidents out of Alberta and will appear in Cranbrook Provincial Court later today.
