Drugs and weapons seized during search in Kimberley

Two males, 21 and 22, arrested after search turns up marijuana and machete

Two Kimberley males are facing drug charges after a search warrant was executed late on January 6.  The Kimberley/Cranbrook Crime Reduction Unit obtained a search warrant and with the assistance of Cranbrook and Kimberley General Duty members searched a residence on 6th Ave in Kimberley.

Two males (21 and 22) were taken into custody; they have since been released for court in March.

Seized during the search was small quantity of marihuana and evidence to support drug trafficking charges along with a large machete.

A machete is not necessarily considered a weapon, Newel said, but when drug trafficking is involved, it’s a different story.

“Under a normal search warrant, it may be different, but once you associate it with drug trafficking, a machete becomes an issue. Courts take a dim view of any type of weapon involved with drug trafficking.”
