The Kimberley and District Chamber of Commerce is planning to fill the Kimberley Conference Centre with booths promoting Kimberley businesses, selling products and highlighting tourism products on Sunday, February 17, 2013.
That particular weekend is Family Day in both Alberta and Saskatchewan and it is estimated there could be up to 6,000 people on the ski hill that weekend.
While there is potential that some people will venture downtown, with much of the accommodation on the mountain many will stay on the hill all weekend. So if the skiers are staying on the mountain, why not bring Kimberley business to them?
In conjunction with the Conference Centre and Resorts of the Canadian Rockies, the Chamber will host the Winter Market on February 17 from noon until 5 p.m. and they are looking for local businesses to sign up.
“Part of the rationale is to promote our Summer activities,” said Chamber President Darren Close in a press release.
“We want this “Ski” crowd to come back and visit us in other seasons so we want to tell them what we can offer. We see this market as a combination of retail booths selling products, service businesses promoting their expertise and tourism partners advertising their activities.
“We would like to fill the entire Conference Centre. We will be promoting the “Market” with the help of accommodators with material in every room, and advertising all over the ski hill. We will also advertise to the local market on what is the busiest weekend of the skiing calendar.”
Booths are $50 and will include an eight by eight space, a six foot table and a black table cloth. Limited power is available as well for an additional $20.
