Final Kimberley enrolment numbers in

Ministry of Education pays $8,603 per student to school boards

The final headcount has taken place and official enrolment numbers are now being submitted to the Ministry of Education by School District No. 6 staff.

As of September 30, the Kimberley Zone has 1,037 Full Time Equivalent students, up 19 FTE students from last year. This continues a steady enrolment climb in Kimberley in the past three years. Enrolment has climbed from 988.375 FTE students in 2010-11 to the 1,037 of this year.

In the Golden Zone numbers fell by 12.875 FTE students to 864.5 and in Windermere numbers were off by 5.25 to 1104 FTE students. Balanced out by the increase in Kimberley, SD6 enrolment increased by 1.125 FTE students or 3,005.625 enrolled in total.

The average per-pupil funding for K to 12 students increased to $8,603 for 2013-14.

In Kimberley, in addition to the 1,037 FTE students in the public system, there are also some 100 plus students enrolled at the Kimberley Independent School.

The Kimberley Independent School, which recently purchased the former Chapman Camp School building, offers programming for students in grades K through 8.

KIS limits class sizes to 16. In the public system, district wide, class sizes are as follows: Kindergarten, 18; Grades 1 to 3, 19.9; Grades 4 to 7, 24.5 and Grades 8 to 12, 23.8.
