At 2:42 a.m. Wednesday, June 13, the Kimberley Fire Department (KFD) responded to a fully engulfed structure fire in Townsite on Moyie Street. Fire Chief Rick Prasad says that the cause of the fire is currently unknown and under investigation.

The home owners made the call to the fire department and no injuries were reported.

BC Ambulance were also on scene along with BC Hydro and Fortis BC. The Kimberley Fire Department responded with 15 members and two fire engines, and remained on scene until approximately 6 a.m.

“The house was extensively damaged structurally and there is a lot of smoke damage as well,” explained Prasad. “The house was also covered in cedar siding which contributed to the fire.”

Prasad says the department and home owners are currently looking for their cat.

“We know the cat is okay, but it is presumed that it’s roaming around,” said Prasad.

He added that the KFD will continue their efforts Wednesday afternoon, as they were waiting for things to cool down before they go back in.
