Police say fresh snowfall assisted in making a quick arrest early Tuesday morning, December 18, 2018.

Sgt. Chris Newel of the Kimberley Detachment says Kimberley RCMP received a call at 3:34 a.m. that a man appeared to be trying to break into a house. The caller said the man was trying to open the door and was banging on the side of the house.

An officer and police dog arrived on the scene a few minutes after the call and the officer saw fresh tracks in the snow.

“He followed the tracks, which wandered aimlessly for several blocks,” Newel reported in a press release.”The subject was located and taken into custody.

“The wet, cold, intoxicated male had trouble determining which house was his. It’s believed the subject resided on the next block over. Although they may have found his house, the officer felt the subject should be lodged in a warm cell to ensure his safety. He will be released once he is able to care for himself.”
