The City of Kimberley will be holding a by-election in September to fill a vacancy as it as announced that Coun. Steven Royer will be stepping down immediately for personal reasons.

“We thank Steven for his contributions to the City of Kimberley. We extend our best wishes as he focuses on his personal priorities,” said Mayor Don McCormick.

Royer initially had an unsuccessful run for council in 2018, and then ran again successfully in 2022.

In addition to his council duties, Royer has been a very active volunteer in Kimberley, with the Mark Creek Lions Club, coaching the East Kootenay Track Club and more.

The by-election will be pushed back into the fall to avoid holding an election during the summer months. More details about the by-election itself and how to become a candidate will be coming soon.
