Kimberley turns to Ullr

A bonfire for the Norse god of snow may reap results

Ullr will be visiting the Kimberley Alpine Resort Friday evening.

While non-skiers are basking in the glow of a fairy benign winter of 2013, there is no question that those who enjoy winter sports would like to see a little more of the white stuff fall this season.

James ‘Archie’ Archibald will once again be calling on the Norse snow god Ullr Dag to do something about it.

Each year, Archibald organizes a bonfire and invites Ullr to attend. This year’s bonfire will be lit at 7 p..m. just behind the Polaris Lodge in the upper parking lot of the Kimberley Alpine Resort.

A bonfire to appeal for snow? It’s worked in the past, Archibald said.

“Last year it snowed three feet the day after,” he said.

The Ullr bonfire was also awarded the ‘Best Pagan Ritual” award by Ski Canada magazine last year.

This is an event for all ages, so come on up to KAR and dance around the bonfire with Ullr.
