What began as a day to honour the late City Councillor Bob McWhinnie, at the skate park that was so close to his heart, has now evolved into an annual family event at Kimberley’s Skate Park. The 2013 rendition of McWhinnie Day is scheduled for Sunday, April 28 at 11 a.m.
The last two McWhinnie days have been a complete success with skaters and bikers jamming, live music and family fun. Those events have raised $1300, and with the help of local contractor donations, have allowed the washrooms at the skate park to be almost completed.
McWhinnie Day organizer Alex Buterman says they should be operating on the big day.
McWhinnie Day is a jam, not a competition. It’s a chance for skaters to show off their skills and thrill the crowd with their tricks. All ages and abilities of riders are welcome.
By the way, if you want to practice skating, Alex and crew have shovelled the snow out of the bowls at the Skate Park, so go for it.
In addition to the jam, there will be live music with Hardwater and Mr. James’ McKim DJ Club, a hot dog sale and a bake sale.
If you’d like to bring something along to donate to the bake sale, it would be appreciated.
