Monday's federal election saw a surge in voter turnout across the country, the province and the southeast corner of B.C.
In fact, Kootenay-Columbia made the top 10 for highest voter turnout in B.C. with 73.8 per cent. That number put it ninth in the province, beating out South Okanagan-West Kootenay which came in at 73.6 per cent.
Kootenay-Columbia's turnout in the last election — in 2011 — was 63,45 per cent.
The Vancouver Sun ranked the highest voter turnouts.
Saanich-Gulf Islands was first with 79.5 per cent. That was followed by Victoria in second with 77.2 per cent, Courtenay-Alberni with 76.6 per cent, North Vancouver with 76.4 per cent and Esquimalt-Saanich-Sooke with 75.9 per cent.
Rounding out the list was Delta in sixth place with 75.1 per cent, South Surrey-White Rock with 74.4 per cent and Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo with 74.1 per cent.
Of the list, five of the ridings voted in NDP candidates — that was Victoria, Courtenay-Alberni, Esquimalt-Saanich-Sooke, Kootenay Columbia, South Okanagan - West Kootenay.
Two ridings voted in Liberal candidates — North Vancouver and Delta; two voted in Conservatives — South Surrey-White Rock and Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo; and Saanich-Gulf Islands voted in the sole Green Party candidate — Elizabeth May.
