Kootenay Ice forward Tim Bozon has been diagnosed with Neisseria Meningitis and is in critical condition in a hospital in Saskatoon.

The Ice — in conjunction with the WHL and the Montreal Canadiens — officially confirmed his condition on Wednesday afternoon.

Bozon was admitted to Royal University Hospital on Saturday, March 1st, and public health officials are reviewing the case to ensure anyone who had direct contact with him receives appropriate treatment.

Meningitis is an acute inflammation of protective membranes covering the brain and spinal cord, which can be caused by infection via viruses or bacteria.

Bozon’s parents, Phillipe and Helene, have been with him since Sunday, flying in from Switzerland.

Bozon is a third-round 2011 draft pick of the Montreal Canadiens.
